Ready? Don't laugh, Bing is critical for SEO, I'm serious

If you’ve been asking, ‘Is my brand being mentioned on ChatGPT?’ then you’re asking the right question. Getting that answer can be complex, but getting some of that info is free and easy as bing ‘fries are done’ (yes it’s actually ‘ding’ but just roll with it).

Microsoft poured billions into OpenAI. That relationship didn’t stay one-directional. OpenAI feeds data to Bing and it has quietly become the backbone that a lot of AI answer engines lean on for real-time web data. If you’ve been ignoring Bing because it never mattered for organic traffic because frankly no one uses it, it’s worth a second look for a different reason now to get data that will help measure your GEO traction:

  • Get indexed and verified in Bing Webmaster Tools (You bet I Googled that link). If you haven’t touched it since 2015, it’s not the same tool anymore. Free to sign up.
  • Use Bing’s IndexNow/URL submission feature whenever you publish or update key pages. Don’t wait for organic crawling. This is the fastest way to get new brand or product info into the index that Copilot and other tools are drawing from.
  • Watch how you show up in Copilot and ChatGPT answers, not just Bing search results. If you’re invisible there, that’s the canary, not Bing rankings.
  • Treat this as brand hygiene and a way to get insights on your posture, not a ranking hack.
  • Obviously, review your SEO posture and how you’re optimizing for how AI systems describe you, not for a specific algorithm.
